Brazilian candidates propose stricter laws to combat organized crime
Brazilian political candidates are advocating for stricter measures to combat organized crime and paramilitary groups. Coronel Tadeu, a candidate for federal deputy, supports toughening penalties for violent crimes committed by members of criminal organizations, militias, or paramilitary groups. This aligns with legislative discussions such as PL 2301/2026, which seeks to classify aggravated homicide, robbery, and extortion committed by these groups as heinous crimes.
In a separate proposal regarding juvenile justice, candidate Davi Davino Filho is advocating for the reduction of the age of criminal responsibility to 14 years. He argues that this measure is necessary to prevent criminal organizations from recruiting adolescents to commit serious crimes. This stance comes amid ongoing debates in the Brazilian Congress regarding PEC 32/2015, which currently discusses lowering the age from 18 to 16.
