Brazilian candidates receive significant campaign funding

Recent electoral filings from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) reveal significant campaign funding for candidates in Brazil.

Federal Deputy Zé Adriano (Progressistas) has received R$ 2 million from his party's national leadership for his 2026 reelection campaign in Acre. This amount represents 100% of his declared financial resources to date, with no individual donations or personal funds recorded. While he has secured approximately 63% of the legal spending limit, no campaign expenses have been registered yet.

In Minas Gerais, Liberal Party (PL) candidate for Senate Domingos Sávio has raised a total of R$ 5.42 million, an amount that exceeds the TSE's first-round spending limit of R$ 5,336,641.85. Although the funds surpass the legal ceiling by approximately R$ 83,000, Brazilian law distinguishes between fundraising and spending; irregularities only occur if expenses exceed the limit. The vast majority of Sávio's campaign funds, 99.63%, are provided directly by the PL, primarily through the Special Campaign Financing Fund.
