Brazilian car market: 2019 models stay valuable as compact SUVs gain ground

Four models launched in Brazil in 2019 – notably the second‑generation Hyundai HB20 and the Chevrolet Onix Plus – continue to fetch solid resale prices on platforms like Mercado Livre, with listings around R$45,000 to R$70,000 and a suite of safety and connectivity features.

A historical review shows that many models that dominated the Brazilian road during the 2002 World Cup have since vanished. Only a handful survive, such as the Fiat Strada, Volkswagen Saveiro, Chevrolet S10 and Honda Civic, each now markedly updated. The analysis also notes the disappearance of long‑running nameplates like the Fiat Uno, Chevrolet Celta and Ford Fiesta.

In the growing compact‑SUV segment, Honda’s 2026 WR‑V aims to cement its position against rivals Toyota Yaris Cross, Nissan Kait, Fiat Pulse and Volkswagen Nivus. Built in Itirapina, the WR‑V offers a 1.5 L flex‑fuel engine, CVT transmission, myHonda Connect system and premium interior touches, reflecting the broader shift of Brazilian consumers toward higher‑seated, tech‑laden vehicles.
