Rio de Janeiro Carnival 2027: schools unveil enredos and new muses

Rio de Janeiro is gearing up for its 2027 Carnival season. A series of samba schools have announced their 2027 enredos, partnered with cultural institutions, and prepared new artistic figures ahead of the Special Group parades.

The União de Maricá signed a partnership with the Fundação Darcy Ribeiro to celebrate the anthropologist’s legacy, unveiling the enredo “Utopia Brasil: Darcy Ribeiro.” Império Serrano will launch its 2027 enredo at the Cinelândia on 24 July, in collaboration with the União Nacional dos Estudantes. The Liga Independente das Escolas de Samba (Liesa) confirmed that the traditional Noite dos Enredos will take place on 7 August at the Cidade do Samba, featuring previews from the twelve Special Group schools.

Several schools introduced new muses: Unidos de Vila Isabel named influencer Dominique Aquino as its 2027 musa, while Pérola Negra announced Ráila Aguiar as the new musa of its bateria. Unidos da Tijuca received fifteen samba‑enredo submissions for its theme “A Cabeça do Santo,” with the first presentations slated for 30 July.

The official parade order for the 2027 Série Prata and Série Bronze has also been released, listing 24 schools in Série Prata and 22 schools in Série Bronze, outlining the schedule for Friday through Tuesday of the preliminary contests.
