Brazilian carnival schools unveil 2027 parade themes
Rio de Janeiro's Portela samba school announced the 2027 Carnival storyline, a tribute to legendary mestre Monarco. The new enredo will celebrate Monarco's life, music and legacy with a poetic narrative that will be presented on the Marquês de Sapucaí runway.
São Paulo's Unidos do Peruche also revealed its 2027 theme, reviving the 1988 samba "Filhos de Mãe Preta" with the return of carnavalesco Mauro Xuxa. The school said the re‑edition will highlight Afro‑Brazilian ancestry and equality, adapting the historic material for today’s competition.
Both announcements signal a focus on cultural heritage and historic figures as the schools prepare for next year’s festivities.
