Brazil cotton production and food basket price trends
Brazilian cotton production is projected to reach 4.41 million tons for the 2025/26 harvest. Despite a 6.3% reduction in cultivated area to 2.07 million hectares, record yields in Mato Grosso and Bahia are expected to compensate for the smaller planting area.
In the consumer market, the cost of the basic food basket decreased in 25 of Brazil's 27 capitals during August compared to July. This decline was driven by lower prices for items such as potatoes, powdered coffee, and tomatoes. São Paulo remains the most expensive city for the basic basket at R$ 900.59. However, on an annual basis, the cost of the basket increased in 25 capitals, with the most significant rises seen in Goiânia, Cuiabá, and Vitória.
