Brazil advances multiple legislative measures to strengthen women's rights and safety

The Chamber of Deputies' Women’s Rights Committee approved a bill adding a 5% pension supplement for mothers who cared for their children, extending to up to three children and applying to the General Social Security Regime.

The Senate launched the Conexão Lilás program, a four‑month training initiative for 40 public‑school youths (ages 14‑18) to develop an app aimed at combating violence against women, following a cooperative‑social innovation model.

In Minas Gerais, the Legislative Assembly’s special commission approved the nomination of Ione Pinheiro, marking the first time a woman from the Assembly will serve on the State Court of Accounts.

The Chamber also approved the creation of a National System to Face Violence against Women and Girls, earmarking up to R$ 5 billion in federal funds to be transferred directly to states, municipalities and the Federal District, with a governance structure to monitor and coordinate actions.

President of the Chamber, Hugo Motta, celebrated the system’s approval, calling the fight against femicide a state agenda and observing a minute of silence for a recent femicide case.
