Brazilian Chamber Ethics Council reviews lawmakers' decorum cases before elections

The Chamber of Deputies' Ethics Council reconvened on 11 August to examine four disciplinary representations involving federal deputies Erika Hilton (PSOL‑SP), Paulo Bilynskyj (PL‑SP), and Rogério Correia (PT‑MG), who faces two separate cases. The complaints allege offensive remarks toward cis‑gender women, authoritarian conduct in public security committee meetings, and the use of an AI‑generated image depicting a fictitious meeting of Jair Bolsonaro, Daniel Vorcaro and Roberto Campos Neto, as well as alleged physical aggression during a CPMI session.

In a parallel municipal case, the Curitiba City Council's Ethics and Decorum Board is set to decide on 10 August whether to forward a complaint against councilor Eder Borges (Novo) for mimicking a firearm with his hand during a plenary session. The councilor’s gesture, made during a tribute to education workers, has prompted calls for public censure or possible suspension of his mandate.
