Brazilian Chamber of Deputies approves amnesty for truck driver fines

In the first half of this year, Brazil's Chamber of Deputies approved Provisional Measure 1343/26. The measure reinforces the minimum freight rate for road cargo and grants amnesty for fines issued to truck drivers, carriers and companies that participated in highway blockades after the 2022 presidential election. It also modifies rules on overweight loads, raising the exemption threshold from 50 to 74 tonnes and allowing certain penalties for excess‑weight violations to be converted into warnings.

The amendment is pending presidential sanction. If enacted, the amnesty will cover administrative and judicial fines, including amounts already registered as debt, and will apply to violations recorded before the law's publication.
