Brazilian Chamber of Deputies reviews new legislative proposals

The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies is reviewing two distinct legislative proposals aimed at regulating different sectors of public infrastructure and communication.

Bill PL 3145/26, proposed by Deputy Cezinha de Madureira, seeks to exempt radio stations from fines or loss of concessions due to signal interference caused by unavoidable technical factors. These factors include atmospheric changes, heavy rain, electrical discharges, and signal reflection from rock formations. The proposal aims to protect the economic viability of small and medium-sized stations, though Anatel would still retain the authority to require corrective measures to ensure service quality.

Separately, Bill PL 2975/26, introduced by Deputy Gleisi Hoffmann, proposes making countdown timers mandatory on traffic lights equipped with electronic monitoring. The measure targets intersections that monitor speeding, red-light violations, or pedestrian crossing infractions. The goal is to increase driver predictability and reduce accidents caused by sudden braking or inadvertent signal violations.
