Brazilian Chamber of Deputies reviews transport and airline rights

The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies is advancing two legislative proposals aimed at improving consumer rights and safety.

The Constitution and Justice and Citizenship Commission (CCJ) approved a bill allowing women, the elderly, people with disabilities, or those with reduced mobility to request bus disembarkation outside official stops during the night, specifically between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM. The measure requires the stop to be within the regular route and for the driver to assess local safety conditions. The rapporteur, Deputy Aureo Ribeiro, stated the goal is to protect historically vulnerable populations.

Separately, the Chamber is analyzing a bill that would grant passengers the right to transfer airline ticket ownership for free up to 24 hours before boarding. The proposal, authored by Deputy Glaycon Franco, would allow a single name change per ticket via internet, app, phone, or in person, with airlines required to process the change within two hours. The bill excludes discounted tickets for specific groups like students and prohibits the resale of tickets. Non-compliance could result in fines of up to R$ 500,000.
