Brazilian cinema and Netflix streaming record audience growth
Brazil's movie theatres posted their second‑best week of the year, with nearly three million tickets sold and more than two million viewers drawn to a mix of comedies, horror parodies and nostalgic titles. CEO Marcelo Lima of Tonks said the "diversidade de títulos disponíveis deu super certo," highlighting the role of varied programming in reviving cinema attendance.
At the same time, Netflix reported a 39% rise in worldwide viewing hours of Brazilian‑origin content over the past year. The platform’s Latin‑America vice‑president for content, Paco Ramos, noted that the streaming surge has created around 50,000 jobs in Brazil, with "20 mil profissionais contratados para o elenco e equipes de produção, além de um adicional de 30 mil extras e contratos diários." The growth is driven by hit series such as "Emergência Radioativa" and the documentary "Ronaldinho Gaúcho," while Netflix continues to license thousands of titles from local producers.
