Brazilian Cinema Chains Resist Screening Bolsonaro Biopic 'Dark Horse

The upcoming biographical film "Dark Horse" dramatizes the rise of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, with Jim Caviezel in the lead role, direction by Cyrus Nowrasteh and a screenplay by former culture secretary Mario Frias. Though completed, major Brazilian cinema chains have signaled little interest in programming the movie. Executives argue that audience demand is uncertain and that the film could spark confrontations between Bolsonaro supporters and opponents, potentially disrupting cinema traffic and harming the performance of other titles. In addition, the project has become entangled in a financing controversy after recordings suggested that Flávio Bolsonaro received delayed payments linked to Banco Master for the film; he later acknowledged the payments but said they were private and lawful. No official release date has been set, and distributors have not confirmed how many screens, if any, the film will receive in Brazil.
