Brazilian cinema highlights Eunice Paiva's legacy and new festival releases

The film ‘Ainda Estou Aqui’, directed by Walter Salles, has achieved significant success following its premiere at the Venice Film Festival. The movie, which stars Fernanda Torres and Fernanda Montenegro, is based on the life of Eunice Paiva, the mother of writer Marcelo Rubens Paiva.

Eunice Paiva became a symbol of the struggle against the Brazilian military dictatorship. Following the 1964 coup, her husband, Rubens Paiva, had his political rights revoked. In 1971, Rubens was taken by police, and Eunice was subsequently imprisoned and interrogated for 12 days. The film depicts her pursuit of truth regarding her husband's whereabouts.

In other Brazilian cinematic news, the film ‘Vicentina Pede Desculpas’, directed by Gabriel Martins, was screened at the Rio Film Festival. The story follows a retired teacher in Minas Gerais who seeks to find the families of victims following a tragic bus accident involving her son.
