Brazilian cinema highlights new film productions
New Brazilian film projects are gaining attention in the industry. The suspense film ‘Antártida’, directed by Bruno Safadi, is set to open the 54th Gramado Film Festival on August 14. Starring Leandra Leal and Andrea Beltrão, the story follows two women investigating a crime at a Brazilian research base in Antarctica. The production utilized advanced virtual studio technology in Rio de Janeiro, including LED screens and artificial intelligence, to recreate polar landscapes.
In another development, director Luiz Fernando Carvalho has begun production on ‘Lost Objects’ (Objetos Perdidos), a modern dystopian fable described as ‘chemical fiction’. The film stars Maria Fernanda Cândido and André Frateschi. The narrative explores a poetic, urban landscape following a period of global blackout, focusing on a couple attempting to reconnect in a fragmented world.
