Brazilian cities boost waste recycling and collection services

The municipality of Belém expanded its Hub do Pix recycling program to accept white‑goods such as refrigerators, stoves and microwaves. Since its launch in November 2025, the hub has collected more than 104 tonnes of recyclable material and paid roughly R$ 69,000 directly to participants via Pix, aiming to increase income for low‑income households and formalise waste handling.

In Ribeirão Pires, the local government added five new zero‑kilometer garbage‑truck units to its municipal fleet, four for regular household waste collection and one as a standby vehicle. The upgrade is part of broader sustainability efforts that also include an electronic‑waste drive‑through and environmental education programmes, intended to improve collection efficiency and public health.
