Brazilian cities collect over 170 tons of waste in municipal clean‑up drives

In Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre, the Expoacre Juruá fair generated about 75 tons of waste during its first three days. A municipal task force cleared 40 tons on day 1, 15 tons on day 2 and 20 tons on day 3, separating glass, PET bottles and other materials for proper recycling.

In São José do Rio Preto, São Paulo, the “Projeto Cidade Limpa” program removed 98.7 tons of unwanted material in four and a half days. Teams covering roughly 40 neighborhoods collected furniture, appliances, electronics, metals and plastics, while identifying illegal dumping sites and areas at higher risk of dengue and scorpion incidents. The operation involved 34 staff, four trucks and a cooperative that pre‑sorted recyclables, aiming to improve urban hygiene and public‑health safety.
