Brazilian cities enact new animal welfare measures

The municipal council of Belo Horizonte approved Law No. 12.029, which took effect on 3 June. The ordinance creates a Municipal Policy for People in Situations of Animal Hoarding, aimed at preventing mistreatment and abandonment by providing integrated social and veterinary support, public‑private partnerships and educational campaigns.

In Castilho, São Paulo, the municipal Department of Animal Welfare reported its April activity: 258 clinical appointments for pets and 515 sterilizations were performed, reflecting the town’s ongoing commitment to animal health and responsible ownership.
