Brazil cities implement digital payment and information tools for public transit
Several Brazilian cities are expanding digital services to improve public transportation efficiency and passenger convenience.
In Salvador, passengers can now pay bus fares using QR Codes via the KIM app. This service, which includes lines serving the Mussurunga and Águas Claras terminals, requires users to purchase credits through Pix to create a virtual card. The system allows for boarding by scanning the code at the bus validator, though it does not support integration with the metro or physical SalvadorCard balances.
In Rondonópolis, the municipal transport authority (AMTC) has introduced Pix payments through the ‘Cadê o Busão’ app, allowing users to recharge student or standard transit cards with specific preset values.
Maringá has launched new tools to help passengers track bus schedules and arrival predictions. Users can access real-time GPS data by scanning QR Codes at designated bus stops or by using a virtual assistant on WhatsApp, reducing the need for additional app installations.
