Santos launches R$1.7 million slope stabilization and drainage project on Morro do Marapé

The municipality of Santos began work on a R$1.71 million project to stabilize the slope and improve drainage on the Morro do Marapé in the city's coastal region. Initial cleaning and brush clearing started on Rua Romeu Acceturi, marking the first phase of a macro‑drainage system that will include surface galleries, channels, trenches and hydraulic stairs to channel rainwater safely.

The engineering plan uses soil‑nailing (solo grampeado) with anchored steel bars, reinforced shotcrete in critical zones, and a “green soil” solution with vegetation and protective mesh on less vulnerable sections. Public sidewalks, pedestrian stairs and the road network at the hill’s base will be rebuilt, and landscaping will be added. The works are being carried out by Ramos Construção e Contenções Ltda. under the direction of Infrastructure Secretary Wagner Ramos, who said the interventions will enhance safety, accessibility and overall urban infrastructure for residents.
