Brazilian cities organize volunteer actions for World Cleanup Day
Cities in Brazil, including Paranaguá and Maringá, are organizing local mobilizations for World Cleanup Day on September 19. These initiatives aim to promote environmental preservation and raise awareness regarding proper waste disposal.
In Paranaguá, the municipal government is partnering with Sesc to conduct simultaneous cleaning activities at four locations: Vila do Povo, Rua da Praia, Canal do Anhaia/Beira Rio, and Jardim Iguaçu. The effort involves multiple municipal secretariats to protect natural spaces, including mangroves and estuarine environments.
In Maringá, the Environmental Institute (IAM) is coordinating volunteer efforts to clean streets, parks, and rivers. The city is also offering a program where individuals with environmental fines under 1,000 reais may be able to convert those penalties into voluntary preservation work, in accordance with federal decree.
