Brazilian cities revise waste collection practices

In Limeira, the municipal Environment Commission sent a formal request to the city hall asking for detailed data on the selective waste‑collection service. The inquiry covered total material collected, payments to the contractor Coopereli, number of routes, trucks and staff, remuneration criteria, measurement sheets, invoices, resident complaints, neighborhood coverage and any penalties imposed. The commission also scheduled a visit on 7 August to the Coopereli recycling cooperative, the urban‑furniture factory and a local neighbourhood.

In São Paulo, the Ecourbis Ambiental concessionaire restructured the waste‑collection plan for the Vila Mariana subprefecture, which includes the Saúde, Moema and Vila Mariana districts. Residents now bring their waste to blue street containers, which are emptied three times a week by side‑load trucks and cleaned fortnightly. The change, started in October 2023, aims to improve convenience, keep streets cleaner and prevent litter from being torn or washed away. Door‑to‑door service continues in areas without containers, with schedule adjustments available online.
