Brazilian cities revise waste collection schedules

The municipality of Palmital in São Paulo state announced a new timetable for its "Cata‑treco" operation, which gathers bulky waste such as old furniture, garden debris and small construction rubble. Residents are instructed to place materials at their homes on the first weekend of each month, with the next collection set for Sunday 7 June and municipal crews beginning work on 8 June. The city warned that irregular disposals outside the schedule could result in notices or fines.

In São Paulo’s Vila Mariana subprefecture, the waste‑collection service was altered on 3 June. The concessionaire Ecourbis introduced mechanized collection using side‑load trucks and installed 912 blue containers, each holding up to one ton, in neighborhoods such as Mirandópolis and Chácara Inglesa. The containers are emptied three times a week, serving about 31,700 residents and 15,600 households. The change replaces traditional rear‑load trucks, aims to keep streets cleaner, and includes updated collection times and routes, with further adjustments possible as logistics are refined.
