Brazilian cities roll out AI and online tools for public health care

Porto Alegre's municipal data‑processing company Procempa integrated the MedGenIA artificial‑intelligence application into the Gerint system that manages admissions to the public health network. The AI generates structured clinical summaries and suggests priority levels for doctors, helping the city’s health secretary Fernando Ritter describe the rollout as a step toward modernising patient regulation. Procempa’s director‑president Débora Roesler said the technology adds information without replacing clinicians, and the platform is already used by governments in Rio Grande do Sul and Goiás.

In the neighboring municipality of Castro, the Atende.Net mobile app was expanded to two additional basic health units, Cantagalo and Jeová Ribeiro, bringing online dental‑appointment scheduling to 11 health posts. The service operates in a hybrid mode, with some slots reserved in‑person and others booked through the app, and the local health authority aims to offer the system in all urban units by the end of August. Both initiatives illustrate Brazil’s push to digitise public‑health services and improve patient access.
