Brazilian cities roll out new traffic patterns and road closures
In Canoas, Rio Grande do Sul, the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) will carry out road works on BR‑116 near the Metrovel viaduct. Starting 19 May 2026, partial and total lane closures will occur on the main carriageway, side streets and roundabouts, with additional lane narrowing between 23 h and 5 h on several nights. The schedule includes blockages on Avenida Getúlio Vargas and the central roundabout, intended to allow installation of widening beams for the viaduct.
Also in Canoas, the municipality will modernise Avenida Guilherme Schell, reorganising lanes, adding acceleration/deceleration zones and converting nearby streets to one‑way to improve traffic flow and safety.
Meanwhile, Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul's municipal transport agency (Agetran) will convert two streets in the Vila Industrial district to one‑way operation this week. Waldomiro de Souza will run from Avenida Coronel Ponciano to Rua Dr. Vanilton Finamore, while Marechal Rondon will flow opposite, both near the Izabel Muzzi Fioravanti and Sesi schools. Signage has been installed and traffic agents will guide motorists during the adjustment period.
