Brazilian cities São José dos Pinhais and Viçosa launch drainage upgrades

In São José dos Pinhais, municipal crews are expanding the storm‑water drainage network on Rua Benedito Afonso Camargo. The project, managed by the city's Secretariat of Roads and Public Works, involves installing and reconfiguring underground galleries to increase water flow capacity and reduce flooding. Secretary Marco Setim said, "We are advancing another work that will bring permanent benefits to the population. An efficient drainage system reduces rain impacts, improves road conditions and offers more safety for residents and commuters."

In Viçosa, the municipality has begun work on a new drainage system along Rua Gomes Barbosa. The effort includes laying about 390 metres of high‑density polyethylene (PEAD) pipe, connecting to the existing network that discharges into the Conceição stream, and resurfacing the street to correct low spots that trap water. The upgrades aim to improve water runoff, traffic safety and mobility during heavy rains.

Both projects are part of local initiatives to enhance urban infrastructure and mitigate flood‑related disruptions.
