Brazilian city councils approve fiscal, health and safety measures

On June 9, the municipal chamber of Brusque (Santa Catarina) held a regular session focused on public security, health and mobility. Councilors voted on a law allowing the city to transfer radio‑patrol and shared‑management funds to the state police, created a permanent transport analyst position, reclassified a rescue‑driver role and updated the rural road system. Other ordinances introduced public‑health guidance on the Heimlich maneuver, declared a local sports and cultural association a public utility, and called for a public hearing on stray and aggressive dogs. The session also addressed drainage works, recognized local clubs and athletes, and requested data on drug use in public spaces.

The same day, Pato Branco (Paraná) convened an extraordinary session that approved the 2026 Municipal Fiscal Recovery Program (REFIS) to let taxpayers settle debts under special terms, and authorized the opening of a R$3.2 million special credit for the municipal traffic department. Councilors also endorsed the creation of a specialized Rehabilitation Center (CER Type IV) within the public health system and an orthopedic workshop, and amended the "Porteira Adentro" program to supply basaltic material to rural producers.
