Brazilian city councils launch CPIs to investigate education contract misuse
The municipal council of Joaçaba has concluded the investigative phase of its Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) into alleged diversion of public funds, and is preparing a final report to be forwarded to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Civil Police and the State Court of Auditors for further action.
In the neighboring municipality of Japeri, the council has opened a new CPI to examine a R$4 million contract awarded to Porcellis Serviços for electrical upgrades in public schools. The inquiry questions the adequacy of work completed versus payments made, following earlier findings by a health‑sector CPI and a pending impeachment request against the mayor.
