Brazilian Climatech Forum seeks new financing models
The Brazilian Climatech Forum (FBC), representing over 500 mapped companies in Brazil, has presented a document to presidential candidates outlining 40 demands to foster public policies for the climate technology sector.
Citing a 2024 Boston Consulting Group study, the forum notes that the global climate transition will require annual investments between US$ 2.6 trillion and US$ 3 trillion through 2050. To capture this potential, the FBC is calling for new financing models. Key requests include the creation of a specific mechanism within Eco Invest Brasil for climate tech companies, with a focus on allowing for higher risk tolerance in equity investments.
Additionally, the FBC seeks protections for climate funds against potential budget freezes. The forum, which includes 40 associated companies generating between R$ 5 billion and R$ 8 billion, is also advocating for the Fundo Clima to allow for smaller operations, specifically targeting amounts below the current R$ 20 million threshold managed by BNDES and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.
