Brazilian Community Care Initiatives Celebrate Milestones in Elderly and Neurodiverse Support

The Lar do Ancião senior home in Bento Gonçalves marked its 36th anniversary, highlighting its role as a long‑term care facility for about 60 residents aged 65 to 100. Operated by a nonprofit with a multidisciplinary team of 40 staff, the home provides 24‑hour medical care, physical activities, psychological support and daily social programs, relying on donations, municipal support and initiatives such as a wood‑waste heating system and solar energy to sustain operations.

In Joinville, the Projeto Amor em Música program used music therapy to foster inclusion for children with autism spectrum disorder and other neurodivergences. The project, aimed at socially vulnerable families, reported improvements in social skills, communication, sensory processing and self‑esteem, delivering 12 public performances and encouraging group interaction, coordination and cultural participation.

Both initiatives illustrate local efforts in Brazil to enhance the dignity and participation of vulnerable populations through dedicated care and culturally‑based therapeutic activities.
