Brazilian companies face varying impacts from interest rates and labor changes
An analysis by Itaú BBA suggests that interest rate cuts could significantly boost profits for companies in the IBX index. A 1 percentage point reduction in domestic debt costs could increase projected 2027 net profits by approximately R$ 4.9 billion, representing a 0.9% gain. The utilities sector is expected to be the primary beneficiary, potentially accounting for R$ 2.3 billion of that gain.
Conversely, Safra reports that the potential end of the 6x1 work scale could increase costs for healthcare companies. The impact on 2025 EBITDA for monitored firms is estimated between 0.5% and 4.6%. Hapvida is identified as the most exposed company to these labor changes, though the bank notes that the ability to negotiate different work regimes or pass costs to consumers could mitigate the financial pressure.
