Brazilian companies integrate ESG and sustainability into business models

Brazilian companies are increasingly integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics into their core business strategies.

Production company Floresta, a partner of Sony, is focusing on sustainability and social inclusion within the audiovisual sector. Executive Director of Operations Rosangela Wicher noted that the company has implemented an internal ESG group composed of volunteers to address ecological and social responsibilities. This approach is viewed as a competitive advantage when working with major global players.

In the cosmetics sector, Natura utilizes the Integrated Profit and Loss (IP&L) tool to measure its broader impact. Sustainability Director Angela Pinhati stated that for every R$ 1 of revenue generated, the company calculates R$ 4 in positive impact for society and the environment. This model monetizes externalities, accounting for natural, social, and human capital by weighing negative impacts, such as carbon emissions, against positive contributions, such as Amazonian supply chain support and community benefit sharing. Natura aims to reach zero negative impact by 2050.
