Rio de Janeiro fuel‑station money‑laundering scheme hit by PF's Operation Unha e Carne 6th phase

The Federal Police launched the sixth phase of Operation Unha e Carne on 7 July, executing 19 search and seizure warrants in Niterói, São Gonçalo, Itaboraí, Resende and Rio de Janeiro. The operation targets a criminal network that allegedly used a chain of fuel stations in the Greater Rio area to launder about R$ 7.6 billion over the past six years.

Among those investigated are former Belford Roxo mayor and Senate candidate Márcio Canella and former police secretary Marcus Amim, along with other public officials. The probe, part of the Missão Redentor II task force, follows a Coaf intelligence report and may result in charges of organized crime, money‑laundering, illegal procurement and related offenses.
