Brazilian courts convict individuals in separate homicide cases

In Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, a jury sentenced Flabson Amaro dos Santos Alves to 14 years and his accomplice Rita Cadillac to 7 years for the asphyxiation death of transgender woman Dandara Vick. During the trial, Flabson testified, "Dei murro e várias pancadas na cara. Eu sozinho. Passei a toalha no pescoço e comecei a enforcar." The mother of the victim called for justice, describing the killing as inhumane.

Separately, a dentist and a veterinarian are to stand trial in Espírito Santo for the torture and murder of a homeless man in August 2021. Police say the pair bound the victim, shot him in the head, and inflicted multiple injuries before disposing of his body. Both defendants face homicide charges and will be tried by a jury on Thursday.
