Brazilian courts issue various rulings on debt and administrative misconduct

In Mato Grosso, a court has dismissed an administrative misconduct lawsuit against former governor Silval Barbosa. The case investigated the alleged use of public funds from the State Secretariat of Communication to pay approximately R$ 1.5 million in 2014 campaign debts to Jornal A Gazeta. While the judge noted indications of irregularities regarding document dates and financial operations, she ruled that there was insufficient evidence to prove that advertising services were not rendered.

In São Paulo, a judge ordered the seizure of royalties, credits, and deposited funds belonging to singer Marcelo Pires Vieira, known as Belo, up to the limit of R$ 283,492.97. The measure follows an extrajudicial execution filed by an attorney seeking unpaid contractual legal fees.

Additionally, in Cuiabá, a court ordered the seizure of a property belonging to a former gas station owner to settle a R$ 132,100 debt. The debt stems from a 2006 ruling regarding the sale of ethyl alcohol at abusive prices. The court also lifted restrictions on eight other properties after determining they belonged to third parties or had been previously sold.
