Brazilian courts order indemnities for consumer service failures

Brazilian courts have issued two separate rulings ordering companies to pay indemnities to consumers following service failures.

In Extremoz, a judge ordered a ride-sharing platform to pay R$ 5,000 in moral damages to a driver whose account was blocked due to an alleged duplicate profile. The court ruled that the company failed to provide sufficient evidence of the irregularity and noted the driver's economic dependence on the platform. The company was also ordered to permanently reactivate the account.

In a separate case, Latam was ordered to pay R$ 12,000 in moral damages and R$ 948.98 in material damages to a couple. The ruling followed a series of flight cancellations and rerouting during an international trip from Maceió to Miami, which caused a nearly 24-hour delay and resulted in lost prepaid expenses for lodging and transportation.
