Brazilian courts revoke pre‑trial detentions in separate criminal cases

A judge in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, revoked the preventive detention of a retired civil‑police investigator accused of assaulting an elderly couple in a condominium elevator. The magistrate replaced incarceration with precautionary measures, including a ban on entering the condominium, maintaining a 300‑metre distance from the victims, and prohibiting any contact.

In São Paulo, a judge lifted the temporary detention of two men suspected in the death of Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, who fell during a rope‑jump event in Limeira after being launched without a safety rope. The court ruled that the evidence gathered did not show sufficient participation by the two suspects, while four other individuals remain in custody and have been charged with homicide and related offenses.
