Brazilian cultural events honor composers Carlos Gomes and Tom Jobim

Brazil is hosting several cultural events to honor legendary composers. In Campinas, the ‘Mês Carlos Gomes’ celebrates the 190th anniversary of the composer's birth and the 130th anniversary of his death. The month-long program in September includes free concerts by various symphonic orchestras, lectures, exhibitions, historical walks, and lyrical singing competitions.

In Rio de Janeiro, the immersive exhibition ‘Jobim-açu’ has launched to celebrate the upcoming centenary of Tom Jobim. Curated by Hugo Sukman and Daniela Thomas, the traveling exhibit explores the composer's connection to the Atlantic Forest, which served as a major inspiration for his work. The exhibition uses a mobile setup to present photographs, biographical records, and musical excerpts, with scheduled stops in Gávea and the Port Zone.
