Brazilian cultural projects set for 2026 debuts
Several cultural projects are set to debut in Brazil during 2026. In Bahia, poet Nívia Maria Vasconcellos will launch the literomusical project ‘OCORPOÉUMAFOTONOESCURO: poesia e performance’. Directed by Geovane Mascarenhas, the project transforms poetry into a sensory experience of voice, image, and movement. It is scheduled to begin its tour in the second half of 2026, starting at the 19th Feira de Santana Literary and Cultural Festival (Flifs) before traveling to Serrinha, Queimadas, and Uauá.
In Mato Grosso, writer and poet Luciene Carvalho will perform the play ‘Não’ at the Cine Teatro Cuiabá as part of the 4th Luiz Carlos Ribeiro Theater Festival 2026. Directed by Joyce Lombardi, the production explores themes of female existence, gender violence, and racial identity. Carvalho, who was the first Black woman to lead the Academia Mato-Grossense de Letras, uses the performance to address social silences and the reclamation of female power.
