Brazilian defender Gabriel Índio turns 18 and joins Benfica
Gabriel Índio, a 17‑year‑old central defender from Brazil, celebrated his 18th birthday and became eligible for Benfica's first team. The player arrived from Athletic Club de Minas Gerais in the summer window for a reported €5 million fee.
His official debut can only occur after 6 August, pending Benfica's progress in the Europa League or, if eliminated, the Conference League pre‑qualifying round. Benfica's opening league match is scheduled for 9 August against Académico Viseu. Napoli had shown interest in the youngster, but Benfica secured his signature and received FIFA clearance to train with the squad in Seixal while he was still 17.
