Brazilian Deputy Coronel Ulysses Araújo Apologizes for Women Comment
During a televised interview at the Avança Acre convention in Rio Branco, federal deputy Coronel Ulysses Araújo commented on the ticket of Governor Mailza Assis and vice‑governor Jéssica Sales, saying the women had “competence, work, delivery.” The phrasing was widely interpreted as demeaning to women in politics and sparked public criticism.
Following the backlash, Ulysses posted a video apology, stating “Errei feio. Fui infeliz” and insisting his intention was to praise the two candidates and all women. He asked forgiveness from Governor Mailza, Vice‑governor Jéssica, and women generally, framing the apology as an act of humility and responsibility, noting his prior record supporting women’s issues in the Chamber.
