Brazilian Deputy Rogério Correia ordered to pay R$20,000 to Jair Bolsonaro over AI‑fabricated image

A court in Brazil's Federal District sentenced federal deputy Rogério Correia (PT‑MG) to compensate former president Jair Bolsonaro with R$20,000 for moral damages. The ruling stemmed from an AI‑generated photo the deputy posted on X in February, which depicted Bolsonaro alongside Daniel Vorcaro, the detained owner of Banco Master, implying a corrupt relationship. Correia later deleted the post, but the judge held that the image had already harmed Bolsonaro’s honor.

Judge Luciana Correa Sette Torres de Oliveira ordered Correia to refrain from similar publications, to issue a public retraction for at least 48 hours, and warned of a fine for non‑compliance. In her decision she wrote, “É evidente que o réu ... não poderia divulgar montagem realista capaz de sugerir encontro inexistente.” Correia announced he will appeal the verdict.
