Brazilian doctor arrested for luggage theft at Miami Airport
Marcos Danilo Assuncao-Oliveira, a 68-year-old Brazilian man identified as a gynecologist and obstetrician in Minas Gerais, Brazil, was arrested at Miami International Airport for allegedly stealing items from passenger luggage.
Security footage from Friday showed the suspect loitering near the American Airlines baggage claim area and opening suitcases on the conveyor belts. Authorities estimate the value of the stolen goods to be approximately $1,350. Three victims have been identified so far.
While police records currently list Assuncao-Oliveira as a homeless individual in the United States, he is a registered medical professional in Brazil. Investigations revealed he had no active flight itineraries with American Airlines in the previous six months. He faces three counts of third-degree grand theft and is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with a $2,500 bond.
