Brazilian elder care centers celebrate 10-year anniversaries

The Centro Dia do Idoso Irmã Dilma Lopes Coutinho in Marília marked a decade of operation with a ceremony attended by users, families, municipal officials and partners. The center provides day‑time care, specialized monitoring and social activities for semi‑dependent seniors, allowing them to stay with their families while receiving support. Municipal councilors highlighted the unit’s role in the local social‑protection network, and a mascot and a partner‑developed interactive robot featured in the festivities.

In Varginha, the Centro de Convivência do Idoso (CCI) also celebrated ten years as a reference point for basic social assistance. Linked to the local CRAS, the center serves about 30 seniors daily with workshops, physical training and cultural activities, and has recently partnered with Sesc to expand programming. Municipal officials emphasized the CCI’s contribution to healthy aging and discussed plans for a new semi‑internship day‑care facility for the elderly.

Both centers underline growing municipal focus on active, dignified aging in Brazil’s interior cities.
