Brazilian Election: Poll Methodology Questioned and New WhatsApp Campaign Platform Unveiled

A recent BTG/Nexus poll registered with Brazil's Superior Electoral Court showed President Luiz Inácio Lula with 40% support and Flávio Bolsonaro with 34% in the first round. Analysts and opposition figures criticised the questionnaire, saying the wording of a “political rejection” question favoured Lula by limiting the anti‑Lula option to the president alone, while the anti‑Bolsonaro option included the entire Bolsonaro family. They also pointed to frequent changes in the candidate list across survey rounds and warned that question order could prime later responses.

Separately, political marketing consultant José Américo Moreira da Silva launched “Candidato Conectado,” a platform that uses WhatsApp to register supporters, segment messages by region, and manage campaign teams ahead of the 2026 elections. The tool claims to exploit the fact that over 90% of Brazilians use WhatsApp, allowing simultaneous broadcasts, targeted group messaging, and integration of coordinators and leaders within a single environment.
