Brazilian Electoral Courts Reinstate Caxias Mayor and Flag Gender‑Quota Fraud in Minas Gerais

The Regional Electoral Court of Maranhão (TRE‑MA) unanimously overturned a lower‑court ruling that had stripped Gentil Neto (PP) of his mayoral mandate in Caxias, Maranhão. The court found the evidence insufficient to prove alleged abuse of political power and vote‑buying, and restored the mayor’s mandate, though the decision may still be appealed to the Superior Electoral Court.

In a separate case, the Electoral Justice of Coronel Fabriciano, Minas Gerais, ruled that three parties – PRD, PPe and Solidariedade – committed gender‑quota fraud in the 2024 municipal elections. The court ordered the cancellation of the parties’ regularity documents, annulment of the votes they received, and a recalculation of electoral quotients, with the decision subject to appeal before the Regional Electoral Court of Minas Gerais (TRE‑MG). The rulings could lead to a reallocation of council seats pending final outcomes.
