Refrigerators generate a range of sounds as part of their regular operation. Thermal expansion and contraction of plastic and metal components produce clicks and a "tec‑tec" noise, especially after the door is closed. The automatic defrost cycle creates light hissing, chirping and occasional water‑drip sounds as a heating element melts ice on the evaporator. The compressor and internal fan emit a steady hum or buzz while maintaining the cooling cycle.

Specialists advise that these noises are typically harmless if they remain consistent in volume and do not coincide with a loss of cooling performance. New, louder, metallic, or irregular sounds may indicate a developing fault and should prompt a check by a qualified technician.
