Brazilian FA protests disallowed Vinícius Jr. goal against Scotland at World Cup

In the Group C match of the FIFA World Cup held in Miami, Brazil defeated Scotland 3‑0. Vinícius Júnior scored in the 22nd minute, but referee César Ramos used VAR to overturn the goal, ruling that Júnior had fouled defender Jack Hendry. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has sent an official letter to FIFA demanding a review of the decision, arguing that the referee is experienced and that video evidence shows no infraction. The CBF also referenced a similar incident in the 2018 World Cup, when a goal was upheld despite a foul.

Despite the controversy, Vinícius Júnior scored again later in the match and Matheus Cunha added a third goal, securing Brazil’s lead in Group C. The team will face Japan in the round of 16 on 29 January in Houston.
