Brazilian father to sue Portuguese state over minor's travel

The father of a 14-year-old Brazilian girl who traveled alone to Portugal has announced intentions to file a legal complaint against the Portuguese state. Thales Farias, the mayor of Coronel Ezequiel in Rio Grande do Norte, criticized the Public Security Police (PSP) for allowing the minor to leave Lisbon Airport with a 20-year-old man she met online.

New details suggest the trip was a planned escape involving both families. Reports indicate the teenager's mother was aware of the relationship, and the young man's family in Seixal, Portugal, reportedly assisted in her arrival. Despite efforts by the girl's parents in Brazil to restrict her communication, the plan was executed in secret.

The 20-year-old man has been indicted on suspicion of abduction and potential abuse of a minor. Following the intervention of authorities, the teenager was taken to Spain by an uncle and is currently awaiting her definitive return to Brazil.
