Brazil's Federal Police rejects Daniel Vorcaro's plea bargain in Banco Master fraud probe
The Federal Police (PF) rejected the plea‑bargain (delação premiada) submitted by Daniel Vorcaro, former owner of Banco Master, deeming the information offered as adding little to the material already gathered in the investigation of a suspected multibillion‑real fraud scheme. The decision, communicated to Vorcaro’s lawyers and to STF minister André Mendonça, the case’s rapporteur, was also noted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PGR), which has not yet ruled on the proposal and may still negotiate with Vorcaro.
Vorcaro has been detained since March 2026. After initially being held in a special “state‑major” room at the PF superintendence in Brasília — a space previously used for former President Jair Bolsonaro — he was moved on 18 May to a common cell, prompting his defense to request transfer to the better‑conditioned 19th BPM “Papudinha” facility. The defense also complained of limited lawyer‑visitation time.
The investigation, dubbed Operation Compliance Zero, alleges that Vorcaro inflated credit portfolios to overstate Banco Master’s results and was involved in corruption, money‑laundering and use of private militias. Authorities also linked family members, including his father Henrique Vorcaro, who suffered a psychological crisis after his own arrest in Minas Gerais. The case continues to attract political attention, with calls for a parliamentary inquiry and scrutiny of alleged payments to politicians.
